I was raised in Battle Creek, Michigan, where Kellogg’s and Post used to make cereal, and Ralston Purina still makes Dog Chow. (Interesting smells when you went downtown). My parents always knew I would have something to do with the media because as a child I would make all kinds of racket during tv shows, but during commercials,
I would shut up and run up to the tv and stare at the commercials. I don’t run up to televisions anymore, but I do yell at it when my favorite teams aren’t playing well!
My dad got transferred around some, so I got to see some neat places. Graduated from high school in Georgetown, Kentucky, earned my Associates Degree at Lehigh County Community College in Schnecksville, Pennsylvania, and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Michigan State in 1981.
I got my first radio job on a dare. While getting my Associate’s degree, I was volunteering at the campus radio station. Another staff member there wanted to get a job at the local rock station, and asked me to apply so they could see how “someone else” sounded. I got the job. So my radio career started before I was ever ready for it at WZZO in Bethlehem, Pa. in 1978. Since then, I’ve worked at radio stations in Michigan, Kentucky and Ohio.
I have the most patient and forgiving wife God could ever provide, Shari. We first noticed each other when I called her a flake in Sunday School, and we’ve been married since 1983. We have one adult daughter Erin, and a beautiful baby granddaughter, Allison. I call her Allie because, well, I’m her Gampy and I can do that! Allie has Down Syndrome, and we learn something new every day. Regardless, Allie is a total joy, and lights up a room when she is in it! She is giggles and smiles, and crawls all over everything. One of her favorite things is to climb on top of the couch and bang her head on wall. I’m afraid she has some of my tendencies toward strangeness….
My walk with Jesus began when I was kid in Battle Creek. My mom woke me up one Sunday morning when I was five, and said we were going to some place called “church”. It really bugged me, because Sunday was the one day I slept in! But in a few years, when Pastor Angliss had our heads bowed and eyes closed, I asked Jesus to come into my heart. The first thing I noticed was that I couldn’t stop reading my Bible. I was very active in my youth group in High School. My college years were my “dark days”. I didn’t do too many things I am proud of now, but God had a plan, and on the night before graduation from MSU, He reminded me of His presence, of my commitment to Him as a child, and that He wanted me to serve Him. So that night in 1981, I rededicated my life to Him. I continued looking for the perfect radio job, but never found it. Then, in 1989, God told me that I had had my fun, and it was time to serve Him in radio. The next year, I had a part-time job at WRFD in Columbus, and finally went full time on WCVO in 1999. The parent company of WCVO, CVCO Inc., purchased the three stations that make up the Promise early in 2007, and asked me to program them. It’s been a joy and the biggest challenge of my career to program the Promise. While putting the Promise together, God also pulled me out of the youth work I had been doing for about 10 years, and is leading me into a new ministry. I’m still in the process of finding out what His plan is for me there. I have had to learn to ask God for my “daily bread”, to take things one at a time. It has not been easy, but He has ALWAYS shown Himself to be faithful!
When I’m not at work (when’s that???), I’m reading books about the American Civil War, hanging out at a log cabin in Pike County, or playing cards with my girls. Our favorite is a game called “spit”. No spitting involved, but you do find out who your friends are really quick!
Favorite Movie
How do you pick? Ok…Shreck, Gettysburg, or Robin Hood Men in Tights!
Favorite Food
I am the reason God invented chocolate! Only problem is, I have type 2 diabetes.
Favorite Scripture
Psalm 103
Something no one knows about me…
I am a confirmed momma’s boy! (just ask my wife…)
Maybe we’ve worked together, or went to school together, or you listen to the Promise. I’d love to hear from you! Questions? Comments? No prob! Send me an e mail by clicking here |

Sherry Abel thinks she is hip because she socializes on the internet. You can mostly find her on Facebook, or Twitter. Her Myspace is often neglected because she has also has a real life.
Raising a family, caring for friends, Children's Ministry at church and a monthly breakfast at a homeless shelter consume her time.
About her family, her husband is a professional computer geek. Her three sons, one college, one elementary and one preschool keep her busy and in prayer. The baby has autism, so please pray so we can see God work miracles.
Her life in Christ started with occasionally going to church when she was small, wearing fancy dresses and being told to be quiet and stop squirming. Growing up in a single mom home left a lot of room for God's grace, even though she wasn't fully aware of it. In high school her friends said they were Christians but didn't act like it. Pregnant at 17 feeling very alone, she cried out for the sake of her baby to a God she didn't know. It turned out He knew her all along and had been waiting.
Now following after Jesus with the good support of her church, friends and family, Sherry has what she considers to be a huge opportunity. Sharing Jesus in a real life way with anyone who can listen to The Promise.

David is a Columbus native and definitely bleeds scarlet and gray! Please never mention the “state up north” in front of him. He loves music, movies, friends and family. When he’s not at work or church you can find him spending time at Easton Mall, Starbucks, the park, the pool outside of his apartment, or hanging out with Max – his long-haired Chihuahua. David really loves spending as much time as he can with his 11-year-old brother, Corey.
He also wants you to know that he is broken and saved by grace. He loves sharing his story with anyone that will listen…letting people know how much God loves them. His sole desire is to make sure you know, that wherever you’ve been or whatever you’ve done, God desires to have a personal relationship with you.
You can hear David weekdays from 3:00pm - 7:00pm. You can also send him an email if you like!

Mary is from a small town north of Columbus where she was quite the “tomboy”. She played 3 sports all 4 years of high school and then got a basketball scholarship to play in college. She graduated from Capital University with a double major in Radio/TV/Film and Communications. She dreamed of one day being a reporter for ESPN, but God had a different plan.
Shortly after graduation she met and married the love of her life. She says, “He is the most patient and kind-hearted person I have ever met.” They are still newlyweds and don’t have any children yet, but with God’s timing they would love to have a couple little ones. She attributes much of her success to the love and support of her family who have always believed in her.
Interesting Fact: Mary has a little sister that is 23 years younger than her and has been one of the biggest blessings in her life, helping her to learn more patience.
Hobbies: Sports, sports, and more sports, watching the latest episode of Dora with her little sister, and cooking.
You can hear Mary weekends. She would love to hear from you: mary@promiseradionetwork.com

Laura Lee is from the central Ohio area. After graduating from Otterbein College with a degree in broadcasting, she worked in a variety of offices (a biscuit company, a school system, a concert venue, and a shopping mall, to name a few) before landing in radio.
She is married to a wonderful and supportive husband, Bill. They live in Westerville with their two young boys, two cats, and two goldfish. Laura Lee’s “other” job is a full-time stay-at-home-homeschooling mom, as well as helping out with women ministries, drama, and the handbell choir at their church.
Hobbies: Reading, making photo scrapbooks, cooking, and learning how to knit.
Quirks: My close friends know that I am a neat-freak, and I love to vacuum. But I don’t like cleaning out the cats’ litter boxes . . . I miss my dog!
Favorite Verse: Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

Rob Carolan, Meteorologist |
Rob Carolan is a native of Mahopac, NY, a small town just outside of New York City. Rob’s interest
in weather dates back to his childhood when he saw lightning strike a tree in New York State at the age
of 5.
Rob graduated from Lyndon State College in Lyndon, Vermont in 1989. While at Lyndon, Rob landed his first radio job providing weather reports
to WIKE-AM, a commercial radio station in Newport, VT. He has a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology and a Minor in Mathematics.
After graduating, Rob headed south to Louisiana to work for the National Buoy Data Center in southern Mississippi. After a year of doing data quality control, Rob finally gave up life in the South and headed back to New England to work for Weather Services, Corporation (WSC) in Lexington, MA.
Over the course of 10 years at WSC, Rob became the Director of Audio Services as well helping to manage the day-to-day operations at WSC.
Rob left WSC in 2000 and began his own weather company, Hometown Forecast Services (HFS) in April of 2001. He saw a need to supply accurate weather forecasts and good old fashioned service to radio stations across the country. Today, HFS is one of the fastest growing private sector weather companies in the United States providing weather reports for over 100 radio stations coast to coast for companies such as Clear Channel Communications, Bloomberg Financial and the Associated Press. HFS also provides operational forecasts to cities, towns and states across New England so they can stay ahead of winter weather conditions. Rob can be heard talking about the weather daily anywhere from Northern New England to the U.S. Virgin Islands and Palm Springs, CA. HFS currently employees 10 broadcast meteorologists and weather announcers. HFS operates its state of the forecast center in Nashua, NH 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and uses the latest technology to deliver forecasts directly to its clients around the clock.
